Renewable energy: emerging technologies and innovations

Highlights

In 2020, 733 million people still have no access to electricity, nearly 80 per cent of whom live in Africa, especially in rural areas. Where sustainable energy access is lacking or unreliable, children and young people pay the biggest price as they are one of the most-affected groups due to lack of energy access.  

Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all will unlock possibilities for millions of people through new economic opportunities and jobs, empowered women, children and youth, better education and health, more sustainable and equitable communities, and greater resilience to climate change.
