Rwanda partners with UNICEF to strengthen the JPO programme
With the agreement, the Republic of Rwanda becomes a donor country for UNICEF's Junior Professional Officer programme
Rwanda is the new donor country for the JPO programme
In a signing ceremony on Thursday, March 23, the Government of Rwanda entered an agreement with UNICEF's Division of Human Resources. Through the partnership, young Rwandan nationals will have the opportunity to join UNICEF as Junior Professional Officers (JPO) and develop their careers in international development while contributing to UNICEF's mission.
By becoming a donor country, Rwanda will bring more diversity to UNICEF's JPO Programme and its workforce.
"The signing of the JPO Agreement is an achievement in the partnership between the Republic of Rwanda and UNICEF, establishing a new channel for cooperation.", Ms. Hannan Sulieman, Assistant Secretary-General and UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Management, said. "At UNICEF, we celebrate and promote diversity in all its forms, and the new JPO agreement with the Rwandan Government reinforces this commitment. We are proud to welcome you to join our JPO Programme", she added.
The agreement was signed by UNICEF's Deputy Director Hannan Sulieman, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Claver Gatete.

The JPO Programme offers a distinctive opportunity for young professionals to cultivate their skills and expertise, while simultaneously bringing new perspectives and innovative ideas into the organization.
Junior Professional Officers (JPOs) are sponsored by their respective donor governments. Some donor governments, like Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden also sponsor nationals from less developed partner countries.
UNICEF currently has 21 active JPO agreements with donor governments that sponsor JPOs. We are continuously reaching out and engaging with emerging donor governments who would be interested to support UNICEF's mission and join the programme. In 2022, UNICEF received a total of 31 sponsorships and hopes to continue this positive trend.
