#bravehood - International artists stand up for children in Ukraine
Music giants such as Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Garbage, Nick Cave, Dido, Natalie Merchant and many more support the Guiding Light initiative #bravehood in support of UNICEF Ukraine Emergency relief
Vienna, 20 December 2022 – #bravehood is a global initiative launched by the non-profit organization GUIDING LIGHT in support of UNICEF and in collaboration with world-renowned artists for the benefit of children in Ukraine. Children and their families, who have already endured more than nine months of escalating destruction and displacement caused by the Ukraine war, continue to be in urgent need of assistance such as emergency shelter, healthcare, psycho-social support among many other needs.
All net proceeds from the #bravehood campaign, where merchandise from organic cotton featuring lyrics by Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Nick Cave, Paul Simon, Garbage, Dido, Glen Hansard, Natalie Merchant and Wir sind Helden, and many more artists to come, which can be purchased in an online store, will go to UNICEF’s emergency relief efforts for Ukraine. The lyrics of these world stars are words that come from the heart and stand for hope, peace and bravery.
Icy temperatures threaten children's lives
Children continue to be killed, wounded, and deeply traumatized by the violence around them. Schools, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure they rely on continue to be damaged or destroyed. Families have been separated and lives torn apart.
Fighting in recent weeks has once again resulted in severe destruction to infrastructure and power outages across much of the country. The bitterly cold temperatures thus pose a further threat to the lives and well-being of children.
Christoph Jünger, Executive Director of the Austrian Committee of UNICEF: "Children experience massive suffering because of the Ukraine war. Their rights are violated and the invisible scars of the traumatic experiences will accompany them for life. A big thank you on behalf of all children and young people to Guiding Light for this unique initiative. A big thank you to all the great artists who are working for children and young people in Ukraine! Only with support like this can UNICEF continue to support children and young people in Ukraine."
"This is a grassroots initiative. A handful of people at GUIDING LIGHT decided to help children in need and were brave enough to reach out to artists whose voices are loved around the world. We firmly believed that if we just tried, they would open their hearts to our cause.
